Salesforce – Adding SMS Records to a Contacts Related Lists

Contact your system administrator for assistance if you can’t complete these instructions.

This article shows how to add a list of SMS records for a record to the Related Lists of that record’s page.

The following instructions use the Sales app and the Contacts object in the standard Salesforce format. However, these steps can also be applied to other applications and standard object types. Depending on your Salesforce configuration, some fields may appear in a different layout or not be available. If you cannot view or edit the fields mentioned in this article, please contact your System Administrator for assistance.

  1. Select the Contacts tab.
  2. Click one of your contacts.

  3. Click the Settings Gear icon to open the settings menu.
  4. Click Edit Page.

  5. Click the Related Lists section on the preview page.
  6. Click the Page Layout to edit. This example is using the Sales layout.

  7. In the Contact Page Layout Tool Bar, click Related Lists.
  8. Find the SMS Related List.

  9. Drag and drop SMS to the Related Lists section.

  10. (Optional) Click the Wrench icon for the SMS Related List to configure the displayed fields.

    1. Add or Remove any of the Available Fields.
      Click Add/Remove
    2. This example adds the Incoming Message and Outgoing Message fields.
    3. Click OK to save your changes.
      Click Ok
  11. Click Save in the Contact Page Layout Tool Bar.
    Click Save
  12. Click Yes on the Overwrite Users’ Related List Customizations window.
    Click Yes
  13. Return to your Contact’s page to view the SMS activity you added.
